In July 2020, the city of Melbourne entered what would become one of the longest lockdowns in the world.
From photographs shot over 34 nights of the lockdown, Lockdown Commutes records the strangeness of this time through the experience of the isolated commuters on empty trains travelling in and out of the city.
With a suggestion that the viewer is not merely viewing the subjects photographed, but at allusions to the lockdown occurring throughout the city’s suburbs, Lockdown Commutes makes visible an experience largely otherwise hidden from view.
